Stage 2/Marathon el Qarawin: 44 kilometers (27.28 miles) Monday, 26 October 2009 Start / Stage 2(8am)
- From Camp White Desert, which is among stunning white rock formations, competitors begin a section that is sand and more sand. Competitors traverse an area where only sand is visible for miles on end until reaching a sand dune with a sharp ridge which will take them to the third camp, Table Top.

Not enjoying himself quite as much as Frenz was 4 Deserts veteran, Alasdair Morrison of Scotland. The 61-year-old, taking part in his sixth RacingThePlanet event, started off strongly yesterday and then hit the wall towards the end of Stage 1.
”I was suffering from dehydration and stomach problems and halfway through the stage today these got the better of me,” he said, philosophically. “Discretion being the better part of valour, I withdrew. Success on these races is not just a matter of fitness. Many factors conspire to determine your fate.”
He wasn’t alone in having to stop. Out of a field of 115, there were nine withdrawals.
Although buoyed by her morning pep-talk from Christian Schiester, Tracey McCoy of the USA was one of them. She made the sensible decision to stop before getting into real trouble.
"It was so brutally hot out there that I just couldn't continue,” she said. “I thought I could either push myself to the point that I would be really suffering, or I could stop now and go out again tomorrow. I'm here and it's so beautiful that I don't want to miss it. I'd prefer to do my own thing and enjoy myself as much as possible."
